Adjustments on Grain Cleaning Machines
 Principles    Grains    Range

Check points

Checking the cleaned sample alone is not sufficient to determine if the machine is correctly set.
Check the separated trash and impurities leaving the machine.
Increase each adjustment until some good grain appears at the corresponding trash outlet.
Each trash outlet has its corresponding adjustment.

When installing a cleaner, remember to leave a point to allow easy sampling on each trash outlet.

Adjustments points

Aspiration
For efficient aspiration an even airflow and even grain curtain are necessary.
If there are gaps in the grain curtain, the air will flow through the gaps and not through the grain.
Grain throughput must be regular to avoid variations of aspiration.
If the throughput is too high with a thick curtain of grain, aspiration will be poor.
Change adjustments gradually and wait a while to determine the effect of the change before checking again.

Screens
Screens selection is an important factor affecting capacity, precision and efficiency.
Too high a throughput can produce a loss of grain and a finished sample below specifications:
- If the scalping screen cannot allow all the good grain to pass through, some good grains will pass over the screen with the large impurities.
- With a too high a throughput, the screening screen cannot allow all the small impurities in the product to pass through and some small impurities will remain in the grain.

For a given throughput, the best result is reached with:
- Screening perforations as large as possible to allow a maximum of small impurities through.
- Scalping perforations as small as possible to retain a maximum of large impurities.
